Used for a year, but so unreliableJanuary 2, 2009 CjW(England) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have used Jasc PSP from v2 so unsure when Corel bought them out.
True enough - they have failed. I like the software, but it is so unreliable. Since day one, crop freezes and locks the entire program randomly The only solution is task manager and end the program, or 1 in 3, re-start the whole machine via the power button-all keyboard activity freezes too.
A re-install works again for a bit. Ever so often all the filters fail to load. Then one just gets the 'hand' when trying to select a tool; so a repair must be run.
Now I have talked to Corel -who send a boiler plate reply, then when you ask them to stop stating the obvious as explained in the e-mail, they do attempt to reply -but fail to give a working answer every time.
Unfortunately this was unacceptable -then they brought out the enhanced version and did not offer anything for full-price existing customers.
In fact there has only ever been one patch, and that was there when I bought the 'brand new' software last year -no fixes have been attempted. I suspect all the development is going into Corels other products, which compete with this.
What did I do?
I bought Photoshop CS4 from Amazon instead.
It simply works........
(if that too expensive -try Photoshop Elements 7 -it has all the average joe needs and cost much less)
A lightweight easy to use alternative to PhotoshopJanuary 1, 2009 John Nunn(Coventry, U.K.) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
As a software developer working mainly with web technologies, I have to constantly manage and manipulate images. This is a task I am hopeless at I can crop and resize images but anything else and I find it almost impossible. I have a full copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 yet find the program totally bewildering; I have completed several courses on using it but to no avail. Image manipulation is completely different skill to software development, requiring a different mindset. After struggling a friend suggested I try PaintShop Pro, as it was a lightweight image manipulation package designed to make tasks easy. So I downloaded the trial version and started to give it a try; after about an hour I ordered the full version. It is so easy to use and create the effects my clients so often want. The ability to apply effects and create what I considered complex tasks in Photoshop was an absolute doddle in Paintshop Pro. Adding a drop shadow effect is just a few clicks as is creating a reflection. For the price this is a superb application and should form part of any developer's toolbox.

i think this product is great yes it is slower loading in at the start but this is because it is a bigger program and to be exspected to sum it up i love it full marks
Poor customer support & upgradesNovember 17, 2008 M. Gledhill 22 out of 38 found this review helpful
Just a quick warning about PSP...
I purchased Paint Shop Pro X2 directly from Corel recently. Their customer support stinks (their website sent me the wrong software, and they refused to believe I'd clicked on the correct button).
Even worse, a week later, this new "Ultimate" version was released, and the price to Upgrade was almost the same as buying a new copy.
Poor poor poor..
Good software, very slow to start up sometimes (about 30 seconds), so I still use Paint Shop Pro v7 when I need to make a quick change, and very poor support.
