Omron Vital Steps August 16, 2010 Jaycee I have always found Omron products to be reliable but this one has let that view down. It only lasted a month before the battery ran out - fitted a new one but it then performed erratically. Threw it away after 5 weeks. Disappointed with product and Omron.
Omron HJ109E vital steps pedometer: Value for money March 15, 2010 ScepticMan (Co Durham, UK) This pedometer is a step up from the really cheap ones that are almost given way these days, most significantly because it can be calibrated to prevent over-sensitivity to very small movement. The calorific functions obviously have to be taken with a pinch of salt, but I think the 'aerobic' mode (where only steady movement is recorded) increases their value. The daily automatic reset and history is particulally useful. A small but important feature is the little hole in the clip allowing the pedometer to be tied to your belt - if you're wearing it all day it can be dislodged and potentially lost!
Downside has been the really poor instruction sheet, that is difficult to follow, largely due to the multingual layout. My advice is to write out the English part on a sheet of A4 and all should be come clear. Overall, good value for maoney and I recommend it for the ordinary person wanting to keep track of their daily exercise.
Did not suit me - went for a newer version instead January 26, 2010 MM (NI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an old style pedometer. You need to wear it at hip level. It does not work otherwise.
I have returned it and replaced with Omron Walking Style II Pedometer. It is £ 10 more expensive, but it works amazingly well - it is newer technology, you can wear it anywhere on your body, pockets, etc - or even in your bag! And it is so accurate.
A useful gimmick January 2, 2010 Paul D. Kennedy (Ireland) I'm some one who's walking their way back to health and I'm supposed to work up to 10,000 paces a day. I'm getting there. However, I've had the Omron HJ109E for a few weeks now and still can decide whether it's just a gimmick. It's not very accurate ... how could it be? ... as I discovered on day one but it has been very useful. It has enabled me to measure the number of steps in my regular daily walks (I take fixed length walks on a fixed course but never knew how many steps each route covered). I measured each walking route several times and though the device was a bit inaccurate, it did enable me to figure out an average number of paces for each route. Now I know where I have to walk to each day before turning back in order to cover my daily number of paces. So the Omron HJ109E has proved very useful. Worth the few bob it costs!
Pedometer November 28, 2009 Mrs. Susan E. Hunt (uk) Brilliant - and it even knows when midnight comes and it stops counting that day's steps!
