Garmin Forerunner 305 March 2, 2010 Mark Bryden (UK) Excellent, exactly what i wanted it for, picks up GIS signal within 30 secs if you stand externally in open space. Backlight for running in dark, indicates when you have ran a certain distance, perfect.
Frustrating Forerunner February 28, 2010 Dave the engineer (Beaconsfield, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this product to make dog walking more interesting rather than for running. It is really good to get home and show my wife where I have been, because I can easily export the route I have taken to Google Earth.
The frustration is the rest of the software. Sometimes it downloads all the information, sometimes it does not. I have all the latest software and updates that are available from Garmin both on the device and on the computer. When I upgraded the software on the computer, it no longer automatically downloaded the information to the computer, and I had to go to the tools to tell it what to do. Also, if you download three days worth of information, the software is not intelligent enough to sort it out into different days - even obeying the condescending instructions from Garmin support to make sure that I entered different laps for different days. I found that on several occasions the software crashed my computer, so whatever you do, don't download the software while you have things like Outlook open, or you will have to go through the file checking process. The default option for the software was to load on computer start-up, which is annoying. Another frustration is that both of the straps supplied are too short to enable the Forerunner to be worn over a jacket, which is essential if you want to get a clear line of sight signal in cold weather.
I think this is a potentially excellent product which is spoilt by lack of attention to detail, and a really poorly structured user manual. My first Forerunner froze completely so that I could not turn it on after only three days of usage. The service from Amazon was excellent, and a replacement device arrived within days. I then found out afterwards by spending an inordinately long time on the Garmin website that this freezing is common, and a combination of key presses will resolve. I kept the new one anyhow! If this information had been in the user manual, Garmin would not have had to send out a replacement device.
Garmin Forerunner 305 Wrist-Worn GPS Personal Training Device with Heart Rate Monitor
A gps with heart rate wonderful February 28, 2010 Carlos Casas Escribano (VALENCIA, SPAIN) I recommend it to all sportmen that want to know all datas and information about his training and competition.
I am very happy with this producto. It's wonderful.
Awesome bit of kit. February 26, 2010 Fastroadie (Bedfordshire, UK) Very good watch, it can take up to 1-2 minutes to acquire enough satellites to work, but once it has a lock it will even work in your car. The software is very good in that it will display daily, weekly and monthly totals for all your stats and will save all your workouts for historic viewing. If you have google earth the workouts will be better displayed than in the garmin software. Also I found that if you set it to indoor use, then it won't give you even a basic stat readout post workout (Cals burned etc). Overall a brilliant bit of kit, even better if you get it for a good price.
