Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Based on the best-selling novel from Cecelia Ahern, P.S. I Love You is far more than the standard chick flick that it may first appear to be. Relocating the novel from Ireland to America, multiple Oscar-winner Hilary Swank stars as the young woman who has recently lost her husband. And yet amidst her grief, she discovers a series of letters that he's written to help. These letters give her certain things she has to do, to help her move on with her life.

It's not a completely clean adaptation of the book, and yet P.S. I Love You has more than enough in its tank to qualify as a good, quality bona fide weepy. Swank in particular is a terrific actress, and delivers another worthy performance here. Credit too to Gerard Butler (Phantom Of The Opera, 300) for his work as her late husband.

The film does have a few problems. It meanders a little, and its running time could use a little pruning. Yet nonetheless P.S. I Love You is a well made, engaging drama, and likely to be responsible for a fair bit of blubbing among its target audience by the time the credits roll. Worth a look. --Jon Foster

1 out of 5 stars Less than Zero!   January 5, 2009

The worst movie I have seen in years. Hilary Swank completely fails to convince as a grieving widow - and the ridiculous portrayal of Ireland surpasses the worst type of tourist board 'chocolate box' advertising! A complete waste of the considerable talents of Kathy Bates too. Drivel!

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful film!   January 5, 2009

I haven't read the book but I watched the film last night and loved it.

After reading other people's reviews its become obvious that the book and film are nothing alike. But the point is, the book is the book and the film is the film - you have to look at them differently and go in watching this film with an open-mind. I wasn't sure whether I would like this film at first and remember I haven't read the book, but I love the film but I definitely won't be reading the book because i think it would spoil the film for me now. But not all films are like the books - just look at the Harry Potter films - you can't compare them to the books at all because the books are amazing and the films...they leave far to much out and change things and you have to go into the films with an open mind with what they're going to do - no point comparing them to the books because the films are always going to be different.

If you haven't read the book, WATCH THIS FILM!! It's so heart-warming, and sad and funny at the same time, especially if you love chick-flicks you'll love this. It will make you laugh and believe me it'll make you cry...especially the bit near the end where she runs to her mum suddenly realising she is alone now....so so sad!! Gerry is the PERFECT man in this film...seriously...you can't get more perfect - leaving notes and i love his singing especially "Galway Girl" - and how they met - so sweet!

Seriously watch this film...it may not be close to reality for some people but believe me, its the most lovely, most sad, most sweet, most heart-warming film...and I loved it!

5 out of 5 stars beautiful   January 4, 2009

I have not found many films that will make me cry, but this film is so beautiful and touching that I cried through most of it! The story is sad yet comedic, and acted with class and sensitivity- It isn't a typical chick-flick, and therefore is well worth spending 2 hours to watch

1 out of 5 stars if I could give this film a 0 I would   January 4, 2009

I have never watched a film that has made me cringe as much as this one. Watching Hilary Swank try to cry...listening to one of the worst Irish accents ever...being exposed to a series of priceless and nonsensical quotes such as 'if we're all alone we're together' made myself and the people I was watching the film with want to die. I have to confess to not having read the book, but after watching the film I am no more tempted to read the book than I am to watch the film again. Appalling acting coupled with terrible camera work made this film painful to watch. Major raspberry bowing material. Utter crap.

2 out of 5 stars P.S. I love cheesy films!   January 4, 2009

Okay, what is it about oscar winners who follow -up with a string of stinkers? Hilary Swank after Million Dollar Baby decided to try 'sexy' and ends up looking like a Shallow Hal version of Julia Roberts.Or maybe she just wanted some easy money cuddling up to Mr. Butler. Nevertheless, a very silly plot, with a back-up cast that looks comotose, especially the crooner Harry Connick Jr. who seems to be as perplexed by the script as the audience. Predicatable and squirmingly bad throughout I give it 2 stars for an ending that departs from Rom-com utopia formulaic.
