Product Description TomTom LIVE Services The TomTom GO 940 LIVE comes with a range of essential information services for motorists, delivered directly to the devices over-the-air via a built-in SIM card. TomTom High Definition TrafficTM According to recent research, 49% of Britons say that traffic jams are the most frustrating and stressful part of their day. The TomTom GO 940 LIVE models automatically connect to TomToms exclusive High Definition (HD) Traffic service for the most accurate and detailed live traffic information, which is updated every three minutes. If the measured traffic conditions differ from the expected traffic flow, the TomTom GO 940 LIVE will automatically calculate a better, alternative route if one is available. The expected time of arrival will also be adjusted accordingly. TomTom Safety Alerts with mobile camera data from Road AngelTM With an average of 60 in camera fines received per driver in the UK every year, accurate safety camera data is becoming more and more vital. As well as a comprehensive fixed safety camera database, users will have access to the most accurate mobile camera data, supplied in partnership with Road Angel (UK only). In addition, the service will include real-time safety camera reporting and sharing, meaning users can keep each other informed about mobile safety cameras. Drivers will also receive warnings about unmanned railway crossings, schools, places of worship, and other potential accident blackspots. TomTom Fuel Price Search With 66% of Britons concerned about the cost of fuel more than any other modern-day issue, including the failing economy and knife crime, TomTom has included one of the most useful features for drivers today a fuel price search to allow users to locate up-to-date pricing information from 12,000 fuel stations across the UK, and guide them to the cheapest fuel stations along their route or in their local area. Another broken Live Services TomTom 940January 2, 2009 Mr. B. Ranum(London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My new 940 arrived on the last day of the year, and Problem #1 was that Vista x64 won't talk to it - to fix modify TomTom Home icon to work in XP SP2 compatibility mode and it will start talking. Next, Problem #2 was that the "Live Services" - the whole point of having a 940, does not work yet. Have been through the factory default settings (equivalent of have you turned it off and on again), and have logged a call with support, but on a supposed "mature" product line this is really not on. So, lovely device, I don't mind paying for the live services, if only I could get some.... My last encounters with TomTom support have not been pretty (wait until you break a phone running Navigator...), so I'm not expecting any better now.
Tom Tom 940 LIVE (or not!)December 17, 2008 Mr. Marcus J. Sutton(United Kingdom) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Tom Tom appear to have huge probles with these devices. Along (apparenrtly) with many other units, the live services do not work at all. The unit constantly brings up an error message that imforms you that it is unable to connect to the server due to being inn a foreign country (which it isn't). After receiving this device directly from TOMTOM and spending half an hour on the tomtom support phone number every day for the past week (since receiving this device new), they are unable to fix it and all they can do is "Escalate" the problem. If you are deciding whether it's worth upgrading from a previous tomtom to benefit from the live services.......don't.

A really excellent piece of kit. IQ routes are great. However the TomTom Live Services did not work from the start even though I called TomTom tech support before I tried to connect, as I heard there could be problems. TomTom themselves really have no idea why it does not work and are not able to escalate. One technician told me "only" about 3 out of 10 don't function with Live Services. When I phoned back this morning another technician said it was more like 60% not working. Not one person had any idea why this was the case or when it was likely to be solved. So if you are getting this because of the fantastic sounding HD Traffic or other live services - beware.
DONT BUY UNTIL THEY HAVE SORTED OUT THEIR PROBLEMS.
If you dont need the HD Traffic, get a 920 or 930.
Don't buy one yetNovember 20, 2008 High Mileage(UK) 29 out of 31 found this review helpful
Bought the 940 two weeks ago and it has been nothing but trouble. Speed camera alerts are not working properly and Traffic does not work at all. TomTom support answer is that no fix available yet and they will let me know if one is available ... but not when! They should fix bugs first then sell the units not the other way around. Mine is going back for a refund and I shall revert to using my 910.
TomTom Go x40 - SImply the Best..... by FAR!November 14, 2008 Mr. Steven Johnson(Plymouth, UK.) 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought the TomTom Go 940 LIVE as I need USA maps for next year, I was considering the 930T (as my wife already has the 530T) but I am so glad that I paid that little extra and treated myself to this new range. It is Simply Ouststanding and I can't fault it yet (apart from the higher price obviously!!)
I have owned and used several TomTom's over the years and am so very impressed with this new design from the simple stuff like higher Volume, easy to use MP3 player with FM Transmitter (so I can have all my tunes now on this instead of the Ipod I used to leave in the car!), to the fast GPS lock so I am not waiting for ages to start driving!
However my favourite is the NEW style Dash/Window Mount which is Rock soilid and the BEST part of it is that it is now a docking station instead of a bracket, this makes everyday use so much better and easier.
I have used the new Google LIVE search a few times already and it not only finds what you are looking for but gave me addresses and phone numbers too, awesome! Not sure mind how much I will want to use it mind when the 3 month Free ends and I have to pay the montly subscription which I think is going to be 7.99 per month but so far I am tempted as it is very useful especially if you are a high mileage driver like I am for my job.
I wish I could afford to replace my wife's 530T with the new 540 as I am so impressed but perhaps after Christmas!!
