Is this a design fault?October 28, 2008 Mrs. S. M. Fernie(Staffordshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Tefal Ultra Compact VC1000615 Steamer, 3 Tier, Chrome BodyAm I just very unlucky or has anyone else had this experience with this steamer? I have had two of these. After about 6 months I noticed that the handle (which is affixed to the lid, presumably with glue) was coming adrift and was in fact hanging off. I took it back and had a replacement becuse I really liked the steamer. It has a good capacity reservoir, an external fill facility and the bowls are dishwasher safe - all essentials as far as I am concerned. I only had the replacement at the beginning of August and lo and behold the handle came right off the lid on Sunday just as I was about to dish up my veggies. I was left holding the handle whilst the lid, all hot and wet clattered onto the worktop. I have had a full refund, but now have to find a replacement - I shall have to look at manufacturers other than Tefal because I am no longer confident that their steamers are 100% safe to use.
Cooks ok but not stableSeptember 20, 2008 Damaskcat(UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The results with this steamer are good but I found it difficult to put together - the bases of each tier clip in and are difficult to position correctly. It didn't feel very stable to me and I felt that a small knock would dislodge the tiers - not a good idea with boiling water and steam. Capacity is good and you can just use how ever many layers you need. If you are prepared to put it somewhere out of anyone's way when in use then it is good for the price but I am so unhappy with the safety aspects that I shall be returning the steamer.
Mixed feelingsSeptember 10, 2008 J. Simmonds(Surrey, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Rather disappointed with this steamer. I had a two tier steamer from the same manufacturer with which I have been delighted but it was getting past it's best after a few years of daily use so I decided when replacing it to upgrade to three tiers. The new steamer is no way near as good as the old one, yes, it fits into a lot less space for putting away but in use it is a bit fiddly. I find it difficult to get the baskets positioned correctly so there is no leak of steam and it is not as robust as the old one either needing more delicate handling. I have found that after a few months of use the plastic is already starting to crack. I am disappointed as I said that this product is not as good as I had hoped with my previous experience of their products.

Tefal VC1000615 3 Tier Ultracompact Steamer Chrome Body Compact and easily stored. Used approximately 4-5 times - the top lid disintegrated into 2 parts - the lid and its holder parted company, and the holder cracked in one place - stuck it on with super glue but this did not last long at the temperatures needed for steaming - all in all a great disappointment - needs to be more robust and sturdy.

As somebody who has bought so many items for the kitchen and then ended up allowing them to collect dust due to non-use because they were the in thing at the time. I was a little dubious about purchasing yet another gadget which after a few months will get binned because I cant be asked to spend ages cleaning the damn thing after use.(I dont mind spending ages preparing the food, but cleaning???)
Well flatten my feet and call me Daffy This must be one of the easiest things to clean. I usually wash down the whole thing in minutes prior to eating. On that alone Im sold. Ill let the other reviewers inform you about how good it cooks.
