1 out of 5 stars Read the book instead!   January 24, 2010

First time i watched the film I gave it five minutes, the second time I stuck if for half an hour. No idea why it was so successful.
However the book, "Questions and Answers" is much better. No idea either why so many changes were made to the characters and the plot.
Read the book instead.

A very realistic movie, that shows the best and worst of life in India. A very moving film. Must see.

Just watched this on channel 4 so luckily didn't spend a penny apart from the elctricity and 2 hours of my life. That alone is enough to get me angry. I feel like the boy in the movie who is covered in dung. This is truly awful, never in the history of entertainment has so much hype been fostered on one movie. Any idea that an Oscar is a reflection of merit has been demolished. Surely Van Damme must be next to win the coveted award?

1 out of 5 stars Overhyped   January 17, 2010

I watched this because of the fuss that was made. Why? There was no real substance in the film, it was neither bollywood nor Western, but a confused mixture of the two sides. The film drags a fair bit and some scenes, such as the teenage kid going around shooting people have been done so much before that it felt cliched.

All in all it feels as if the team expect us to stand up and applaud this (which somehow happened), but I was left thouroughly unimpressed, waited for it to finish, and considered it a waste of money.

This is the most over-hyped movie in my opinion, that probably did well because of its depiction of poverty as opposed to any real entertainment value.

A well made film on a sensitive subject but a little too long - but if you are interested in the problems of India this film may be for you
